Unique smart choice OGAWA Maestro massage chair sublimate multi-sensory

SLEEP disorder? tired, anxious, and worked out?

With the all-new OGAWA Maestro from OGAWA Malaysia, you can turn your house into a wellness centre to boost productivity and performance.

The OGAWA Maestro was introduced earlier this month and has already taken the market by storm. According to Datuk Lim Mee Ling, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of OGAWA Malaysia, the company is extending its focus on the health and wellness market, which will develop significantly as more people become health-conscious following the pandemic.

The OGAWA Maestro powered by OVERSEER, combines Smart AI customization, convenience, and comfort to provide a seamless and immersive massage experience.

A survey showed that 51% of Malaysian employees suffer from at least one dimension of work-related stress, and 53% get less than 7 hours of sleep. Additionally, 20% of employees report that workplace bullying contributes to their overall stress.

To add to this, working long hours hunched over the computer and the culture of overworking are manifesting in clinical health conditions and sleep deprivation, according to the survey.

A major finding by HR solutions provider, Employment Hero, said in its Employee Wellness Report that 58% of workers agree feeling burnt out from their work. To cope with all this unnecessary stress, with OGAWA Maestro, we can make our lives easier and more comfortable. The massage chair is powered by innovative technology to provide total relaxation.

The OGAWA Maestro offers an all-encompassing solution – Multi-Sensory Stimulation (MSS), which includes Red Light Therapy, Negative IONs Therapy, Music Therapy with Binaural Beats, AI Precision Sensors, and an AI Fatigue Tracker.

The AI processor detects the condition of your body before crafting an adaptive programme for the ultimate relaxation session.

By using the OGAWA Maestro, you can indulge yourself in a multi-sensory experience through vision, hearing, and smell.

Red Light Therapy includes wavelengths that encourage your brain to produce melatonin. This naturally occurring hormone tells your body it’s time to sleep. The darker it gets, the more melatonin your body releases to put you into REM and circadian rhythm. REM is the phase when we dream. During this time, brain activity, breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure increase. A circadian rhythm is a natural process that follows a 24-hour cycle that responds to light and dark, affecting most living things including animals, plants, and microbes.

Negative IONs Therapy actively emits negative ions for your body to absorb – which is shown to directly strengthen immunity, reduce fatigue, get rid of static electricity build-up in your body, and even repair your circulatory system. You get healthier the more you sit in this chair, with zero effort!

Music Therapy with Binaural Beats is one of the best ways to get rid of all your stress. With these specially composed binaural beats, your body goes into a meditative state that reduces anxiety, lowers stress, and makes you feel calm and happy. With this, you’ll always stay chill no matter how tough your work gets.

The AI control suite called OVERSEER has been refined from previous generations of AI to balance what your body needs with which experience you prefer; now even faster, better, and more enjoyable than ever.

Using an improved AI Fatigue Tracker, it automatically detects which muscles are tense, selects the ideal strength for each muscle, then recommends the ideal massage experience for you.

The OGAWA Maestro is available for RM27,999 at retail. In connection with the launch, the product is currently on sale for RM20,999 (until March 31), and buyers will also receive a free premium eye massager and a 3-in-1 leather bundle.

Financial concerns burden 22% of employees as reported by Malaysia’s Healthiest Workplace survey by AIA Vitality 2019.

To help Malaysians to own the OGAWA Maestro, the company is offering a 0% installment plan for up to 68 months, which works out to RM10.15 a day.

Knowing your BP reading can save your life

WHEN it comes to our health, knowledge truly is power. The more information we have, the better prepared we will be when it comes to making crucial, often life-changing decisions.

Sadly, for many people, it usually takes a major health scare before they finally learn the importance of taking better care of themselves, and they can then begin engaging in behaviours that promote good health, such as improving their lifestyles through exercise or a healthier diet.

For others, however, this realisation can come too late.

Amir (not his real name) was a young man in his 30s who led a fairly active lifestyle, when he suddenly experienced a stroke, which left him partially paralysed. His family were shocked, as they did not know how the condition could have struck someone as young as Amir.

Doctors soon discovered that the stroke was the result of previously undiagnosed hypertension; unbeknownst to everyone, Amir had been living with high blood pressure for some time. The excessive pressure within his arteries had caused them to harden, decreasing the flow of blood and oxygen throughout his body.

SILENT, BUT DEADLY

The World Health Organisation (WHO) describes hypertension as “a silent killer”, because most people with the condition are unaware that they have it, as there can be little to no warning signs or symptoms.

The WHO adds that when symptoms do occur, they can include “early morning headaches, nosebleeds, irregular heart rhythms, vision changes, and buzzing in the ears”. Severe hypertension can also cause “fatigue, nausea, vomiting, confusion, anxiety, chest pain, and muscle tremors”.

Besides stroke, hypertension can lead to other serious health conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, kidney damage and blood clots.

Besides consulting a physician, the only way to detect hypertension is either by regularly measuring blood pressure at home at least once or twice a day. Blood pressure is measured in millimetres of mercury (mm Hg), and for most, a normal reading is 120/80 mm Hg. In general, hypertension is considered to be present with a blood pressure reading of 130/80 mm Hg or higher, although it may vary from person to person.

TIPS TO MEASURE BLOOD PRESSURE AT HOME

Make it a part of your daily routine to measure your blood pressure at home using a blood pressure monitor. To ensure that you get an accurate reading, it is important to remember a few simple rules:

Take readings at the same time each day. Your blood pressure can vary throughout the day, and the readings you take in the morning can be significantly different from your readings at night, especially after a day of activity.

Ensure you are well rested. Wait for at least 30 minutes after exercising, eating, smoking, drinking alcohol or bathing before taking readings, as these activities can affect your blood pressure. You should also sit quietly with both feet on the ground for at least 5 minutes before taking your reading.

Take multiple readings for better accuracy. Each time you measure, take two or three readings one minute apart and record the results, which can provide a timely and more accurate assessment of your ongoing health status.

EASY AND CONVENIENT

Blood pressure monitoring is made even easier with OMRON Healthcare’s connected blood pressure monitor HEM-7142T. This device has been tested and clinically-validated to ensure that it meets the highest standards of precision and reliability. This is a crucial feature, as the accurate measurement of blood pressure is essential for the diagnosis and management of hypertension.

The device is also paired with the OMRON Connect mobile app, which automatically records and keeps track of blood pressure readings. The app allows you to monitor trends and changes to your readings to give you valuable insights about your blood pressure, and can be programmed to give reminders for your medications. Your health data can easily be uploaded, stored and shared with family members or doctors, ensuring that you will always have the information you need at your fingertips.

Gamuda Land opens SplashMania Waterpark

GAMUDA Land officially held the soft launch ceremony for its 18-acre SplashMania Waterpark located in Gamuda Cove on Feb 6. A total of over 2,200 visitors were amongst the first to set foot in the waterpark and experience the first-of-its-kind waterslides in Malaysia like the Shaka Waka, a 78m-long multimedia and audio waterslide fitted with various LED light effects, amongst others.

At the ceremony, Chu Wai Lune, Chief Executive Officer of Gamuda Land, said: “As town planners, we planned for Gamuda Cove to not only include the home place, but also the park place, shopping place, eating place and of course the play place. This is because, we know that when we get the places right, our town will work.

“The waterpark represents a great addition towards Gamuda Cove’s list of placemaking offerings, and the team is thrilled to offer SplashMania’s ‘Where Nature Meets Fun’ hospitality to visitors from far and wide, both local and international.”

He added that the waterpark is projected to attract an annual visitorship of 800,000.

Through the application, visitors will be able to purchase admission tickets ahead of time on top of using them to navigate and check out the available waterslides on the digital park map. Visitors would also be able to place orders at the various F&B offerings and stay notified on when to collect their food and drinks, making for a pleasant waterpark experience.

Aside from that, the application entails a component known as GL CLIX which allows visitors to download high-resolution photos of themselves taken on rides through facial recognition technology.

Sanjay Nadarajah, General Manager (Leisure & Hospitality) of Gamuda Land, said: “Key learnings and best practices on the implementation of technology in theme parks across the region were one of the key considerations to ensure the guest experience in SplashMania Waterpark is a more pleasant one. Fighting the good fight

Over her vast career, the female entrepreneur has had her fair share of difficulties stemming from being a woman in the pursuit of academic equality; from being mandated to learn Mandarin to qualify as an eligible scroll recipient to having her capabilities undermined due to her young age.

These hurdles only bred a resilient spirit that, matched with her passion for learning, worked to serve her well when she was appointed as the Principal Officer of The Budimas Charitable Foundation, a non-profit that seeks to change the lives of children in Malaysia’s underprivileged communities by providing welfare aid.

Under her guidance, the foundation has supported more than 10,000 underprivileged children across Malaysia, leading her to clinch several awards for her ground-breaking work in championing equal rights of these children to a better chance at life, which she believes starts with a quality education.

Her latest endeavour sees her take the reins as a leading lady in the educational tertiary sector as president and chief executive officer of Imperium International College, a product under the Edumaax Education Group—where she also holds the title of the chief executive officer at—next to esteemed institutions St. John’s International School and Pusat Tuisyen Kasturi.

Under Anne’s leadership and strong vision, St John’s has seen significant growth and development. This is especially so in the number of students who have enrolled in the school, with a burgeoning waiting list to boot, further maintaining the institution’s commitment to excellence.

As her work in the tertiary education sector focuses mainly on providing quality education to students from all walks of life, Anne makes it a point to ensure that the principles of Imperium follow suit; this was seen in full force at an event held at the college during a visit from the students of SMK Puteri Titiwangsa, where they got a chance to better understand the college’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDG).

But the main highlight of the entire programme involved an insightful talk by Anne herself, where she shared her views on gender equality and women empowerment, a topic close to her heart as a female entrepreneur and business leader. When she is not being a feminist powerhouse and leading the institution to glory, Anne is a doting wife, and mother of three beautiful children.

Despite wearing a multitude of hats throughout her career, Anne does not regret a thing. Her resilience and go-getter attitude are what allows her to continue being an advocate of change, fighting the good fight for causes that she has been a part of since her early years.

Expand knowledge and enhance skills with MCC and APEL(C) at UTAR

Learning continues, whether at school, work, or home, and in some cases, continuous learning becomes a necessity for individuals who wish to upskill and expand their knowledge for professional and personal purposes. Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) caters to those needs through its Micro-Credential Courses (MCC) and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL (C)) for credit award.

The options for applicants to enrol in either MCC’s undergraduate or postgraduate courses in UTAR actually support their professional, technical, academic and personal development because the single or a series of courses are designed to educate learners with information, skills, values and competencies in a specific field of study or activity. This allows applicants to utilise these courses as opportunities and platforms to enhance professional development, and even for upskilling or reskilling.

Upon completion of an MCC course, participants will receive an e-certificate, and will also be awarded the UTAR Malaysian Micro-Credential Statement (UTAR MMS) which will allow them to transfer credit when they pursue their studies in UTAR.

Meanwhile, for registered students of UTAR, who have prior working experiences and also possess relevant knowledge and skills, acquired through non-formal work-related learning experience and informal training courses, the APEL (C) will be a suitable option for them.

Centre for Extension Education Director Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock said, “APEL (C) Centre, set up under the Division of Admissions and Credit Evaluation (DACE), started in September 2019. APEL (C) is an award of credit granted to a student based on prior experiential learning that is relevant and specific towards a course within a programme of study.”

He added, “APEL (C) is indeed a good opportunity for adult students to enrol in higher education programmes because it gives recognition to students’ skills and knowledge acquired through work experience and short courses attended. Through APEL (C), redundant learning can be reduced, and learning of similar content can be avoided, which also allows for reduced time and cost in completing a study programme.”

The award of credits is in the form of credit transfer and will be counted towards the total graduating credits of the specific programme of study enrolled. The maximum credit transfer is up to 30% of the total graduating credits of a specific programme of study. APEL(C) is applicable to all courses offered by the respective programme (subject to the requirements by the relevant Professional Bodies, Ministry of Higher Education and University, if any) except for final year project-based courses. DACE will facilitate and process the applications for Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning.

UTAR offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in areas including Accountancy, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Arts, Chinese Studies, Malaysia Studies, Business and Economics, Biotechnology, Engineering and Build Environment, Information and Communication Technology, Life and Physical Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, Media and Journalism, Education and General Studies, and Agriculture and Food Science. The university also engages in the provision and conduct of research, consultation, management and leadership training, and other related educational services at its Sungai Long and Kampar campuses in Malaysia.
