Bring the pub home with Guinness in a can

THE St. Patrick’s cheer was at an all-time high throughout the month of March for Guinness lovers. One of the highlights was the Guinness St. Patrick’s AR Filter where groups of fans shared selfie collages of themselves and their mates on Instagram stories.

Eight lucky winners were able to snag the grand prize of an all-expenses-paid trip to One & Only Desaru Coast, meanwhile, 80 selected fans were able to get their hands on the Guinness Home Party Kit that included samples of Guinness Draught in a Can, making them among the first Malaysians to try it.

Offering the smooth and creamy texture of a pub-poured pint, Guinness lovers can now enjoy their favourite draught in the comfort of their own home with Guinness Draught in a Can. This latest addition to the Heineken Malaysia Berhad portfolio is made from roasted barley, malt, hops, yeast, water and a dash of magic - the revolutionary Guinness widget that was the first in the world. The widget uses an ingenious nitrogen filled capsule that surges with bubbles when the can is opened, and the result is a perfectly smooth and creamy beer that is unmistakably Guinness.

The Guinness widget is unique as it makes the process of pouring Guinness Draught in a Can simple, involving four easy steps: crack open a chilled can, tilt the glass at 45˚, fill to the top and enjoy.

Guinness Malaysia Marketing Manager Shaun Lim said: “We are excited that Guinness Draught in a Can is finally available for Malaysian fans to enjoy. As Guinness has always encouraged fans to spark magical moments together, this innovative product gives them the opportunity to do so wherever they are. Perfect for the days when they want to create new memories together outside of the pub, Guinness Draught in a Can recreates the look and taste of a freshly poured Guinness from the draught tap. Except now, providing a different drinking experience for them.”

Guinness Draught in a Can can now be purchased from selected 7-Eleven outlets and premium grocers across Peninsular Malaysia, as well as on Drinkies. The stylish cans that embody the bold Guinness colour palette of black and gold are available in 440ml single, four’s and 24 can packs.

For more information about Guinness Draught in a Can and its availability, visit Guinness Malaysia’s social media pages at www.facebook.com/guinnessmalaysia and www.instagram.com/guinnessmy. Stay tuned as more exciting updates will be made available soon.

Guinness and all related promotions and activities are strictly for non-Muslims aged 21 and above only. Guinness Malaysia advocates responsible consumption and urges consumers to not drink and drive.

“MOP KLIA is fast gaining popularity as the shopping destination for branded goods and the mall has seen a tremendous increase in its in-store traffic over the years. MOP KLIA’s footfall increased during the last holiday season, which led to the success of its year-end sale that lasted from December 2021 until mid-January this year,” he said.

In addition to the introduction of new large concept stores, MOP KLIA has also increased its car park capacity to meet the increasing traffic into the outlet mall.

With the official opening of the new phase, shoppers can also expect good deals and bargains, apart from the Hari Raya promotions that will be ongoing from now to May 8, 2022.

Making an impact on the world

ESSENTIAL oils have long been known for their anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, and in recent years, have also been used to uplift and support a healthy mood, an increasingly important benefit in a post-pandemic society.

In April 2008, a company by the name of doTERRA was founded in the state of Utah in the United States, with the mission to share the purest, highest quality essential oils and products with the world. From a small rented office space with only a few founders and staff, doTERRA is now the biggest essential oil company in the world, positively impacting the world one drop, one person, and one community at a time.

The company opened an office in Malaysia in 2017, and last weekend, celebrated its 5th anniversary by reaffirming its mission to share its oils with consumers, while also donating to social impact initiatives through the doTERRA Malaysia Healing Hands initiative.

theSun got a chance to sit down with Ethan Wang, General Manager of doTERRA Malaysia to find out a little bit more about the company’s ongoing mission to bring a positive impact to the world.

Can you tell us a bit about the history of doTERRA in Malaysia?

“In April 2017, we officially started our business in Malaysia. We were working in a tiny rental office for more than a year.

“Despite the less-than-ideal situation we were in, we were supported by our beloved customers who trusted the Company, and our leaders going the extra mile to build doTERRA Malaysia.

“In June 2018, we started to construct our Office in KL Eco City, and we had our opening ceremony in August 2018. That was also the month where we celebrated doTERRA Malaysia’s 1st Anniversary.

“Not only that, the year 2018 was when we first started our Diamond Club programme. It has proved to be one of the most important programmes we have organised.

“We also launched our first Malaysia Healing Hands programme with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) to help autism children. Since then, we have completed many Healing Hands projects and helped even more people.

“Since 2017, doTERRA Malaysia has managed to grow consecutively for the past five years with more than 400% growth.

“The increase in numbers of members and leaders means we can reach out to serve more people. It also means that we have managed to impact many people.”

What is the meaning behind this year’s theme, Impact?

“It refers to our own ‘Impact’ [which is seen in the tagline] People Empowered. Lives Improved. Communities Served. Progress Made.

“First, we take a look at the Lives Improved. As of this moment, we have more than 60,000 Wholesale Customers and Wellness Advocates who have personally tried and used doTERRA essential oils. Over the past five years, we have launched 67 single oils, 43 blend oils, 33 personal care products, seven food products, and more.

“We believe that our essential oils will help to heal people emotionally and improve their well-being. Through our products, many have become calmer, more positive, and more productive in their lives.

“On the Communities Served, we do this through doTERRA Malaysia Healing Hands initiatives.

“Over the last four years, we have helped many NGOs such as NASOM, Tenaganita, Dual Blessing, National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Global Shepherds, HOPE Selangor and many other organisations around Malaysia through sales of doTERRA SPA Rose Hand Lotion and Hope Touch.

“When we talk about People Empowered, we mean our Wellness Advocates. Since the Wellness Advocate is the heartbeat of the doTERRA culture, they are responsible for the enrollment and reoccurring orders of doTERRA users. This is a role of labour, time, and love.

“They show up daily to serve and educate about doTERRA essential oil products and culture to the public. They also inspire others to join them to invite more customers in trying our products.

“Their efforts have helped to empower women to become more independent, to empower people in their financial health, and have also empowered mothers and fathers with tools to take care of their family well-being.”

Can you give examples of some of the achievements of your Healing Hands initiatives?

“As of this moment, we have given RM745,533 in cash and kind to help the people in need.

“In December 2021, we participated in the global Healing Hands effort to support Sanaag Specialty Hospital in Somaliland, whereby we raised RM113,740 to support the Hospital.

“Besides being one of the most important Frankincense harvesting regions, Sanaag is one of the poorest regions in the world, it is also home to one of the world’s highest maternal and child mortality rates.

“The Sanaag Specialty Hospital is a testament to our commitment to the harvesters, their families and communities who provide us with Frankincense essential oil we all love so much.”

What else is doTERRA is doing to give back to the harvesters and communities who help provide the essential oils in your products?

“It has always been our intention to not only help to empower peoples’ lives through essential oils, but also to serve the people on the other side of the bottle, namely the farmers, harvesters, and distillers who contribute to doTERRA’s oil sourcing.

“The doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing model helps to ensure that the small-scale farmers and harvesters in disadvantaged areas are treated ethically.

“It means we purposely go the extra mile to make sure our farmers and harvesters receive the income they deserved. The more we share the oils, the more product we will need, and the more people we are able to help.

“In 2019, some of our Malaysian leaders and I had the chance to experience Co-Impact Sourcing first-hand during a trip to Nepal. We were able to change lives when we joined in the Water Project during the Wintergreen Co-Impact Sourcing Trip, which involved constructing water tanks and laying pipelines in order to serve villages in the area. This construction is important because these villagers have had no access to pipe water for many generations.

“I really hope that the pandemic can be over soon so that we will have the chance to join another Co-Impact Sourcing trip in the future.”

Speaking of the future, what is next for doTERRA?

“Well, doTERRA has a new mission this year. It is to triple our Impact by year 2030. We are not talking about tripling our revenue. Rather, we are talking about the mission to triple the lives we can improve, triple the people we can empower and triple the people we can help.

“So, how are we going to do this?

“Our Wellness Advocates will be focusing on the core values of doTERRA that we believe can be put into actions. The six core values are Be the Legacy, Be Pure, Be Curious, Be Empowering, Be Leader Focused, and finally Be Customer Obsessed.

“In a nutshell, this means becoming the ambassadors of doTERRA products and culture, building trust with our customers, learning and embracing growth, continuing to empower others, supporting our Leaders, and understanding our customers’ needs so we can serve them with excellence.

“These six core values will help doTERRA to achieve our mission.”

Owning new properties requires a major financial commitment from buyers. On top of the usual challenges such as securing a loan, buyers are often left high and dry when encountering defects especially when they occur after the defects liability period is over. It is difficult to get contractors and buyers do not have the technical expertise to know whether the defects are properly fixed or not.

With IOIXtend, buyers can leave their worries behind as IOIPG lends their expertise and resources to buyers to address their pain points. Buyers will be pleased to know that properties purchased during the IOIXtend campaign will be given an extended 12 month warranty that covers water leakages, and embedded plumbing and cabling. This is in addition to the usual 24 months defects liability period for projects which are under construction. Not only do buyers have peace of mind for an extra full year, but this is also an added assurance of IOIPG’s confidence in its product quality.

IOIXtend also offers buyers interest-free financing of up to 30% of the property price for 10 years. This allows buyers to opt for lower bank loans, thus paying lesser interest and loan instalments every month.

On top of that, buyers of strata properties will also enjoy two years of extended free maintenance fees. Buyers can channel all these savings to furnishing their new properties.

Time for good coffee

Starting the day with a good cup of coffee has been a ritual for many, mainly to help them get through the day. But what happens during Ramadan? Must Muslims completely go without coffee in the morning for the whole month? The answer is a simple, no. Coffee can still be enjoyed during Ramadan and here’s a simple pro tip from Starbucks Malaysia for you to continue enjoying coffee throughout the holy month.

1. Sahur (Pre-dawn Meal)

As we rush to prepare and observe Sahur, we are always looking for the most efficient option to get us started for the day and Starbucks VIATM Ready Brew is the way to go. It is by far the quickest way to enjoy a good cup of coffee in the morning. To keep awake and energetic, try the balanced and nutty Starbucks VIATM Colombia or the roasty and caramelly sweet Starbucks VIATM Italian Roast.

As coffee is known to stimulate gastric acid in our stomach, taking too much caffeine may bring discomfort and affects our daily activities. One of the best ways to avoid an upset stomach during fasting is to consume your coffee with milk. To take it a notch higher, try substituting your normal milk with plant-based milk as it aids in easy digestion and gives a boost of flavour without irritating your stomach lining. Also, don’t forget to drink more water to keep you hydrated throughout the day, as one cup of coffee may not suffice.

2. Iftar (Break-fast Meal)

Living in a tropical climate, fasting in Malaysia can be more challenging due to the heat and the weather. Try quenching your thirst with a cold cup of citrusy and caramelly smooth Starbucks VIATM Iced Coffee. Easy, fast and convenient, the Starbucks VIATM Iced Coffee will leave you refreshed and restores energy for your post-iftar activities. You may even pair it with your favourite juice, such as orange or cranberry to add a little twist to your coffee.

If you are planning to stay up a little later than usual, or even indulge in a quick nightcap, have a taste of the Starbucks VIATM Vanilla Latte or the Starbucks VIATM Caramel Latte. Both of the coffees offer warm, smoky, and soothing flavours that are perfect to wind down after a long day of fasting. However, to avoid sleeplessness after drinking coffee, it is vital that you know and understand your caffeine tolerance in the evening.

3. Hari Raya

After two years of celebrating Hari Raya under lockdown, it is finally time to celebrate the occasion in full swing! Up your game this Hari Raya by serving the best concoction of kuih flavours that will be the talk of the town. Jazz up the normal chocolate-based Raya cookies with the Starbucks VIATM Caffé Mocha. The mixture of chocolate and coffee brings out new flavours in each other.

As we welcome guests into our home this festive season, spoil your loved ones with a serving of a good old affogato, in the form of a scoop of your preferred vanilla ice cream, topped with a concentrated amount of Starbucks VIATM Italian Roast and you can even sprinkle some of the dried micro-ground coffee on top for a tiramisu flavoured dessert that will certainly be a show stopper. Fair warning, your guests may ask for seconds because the concoction is that good!

Bored of serving the same beverages during the season? Put on your mixologist hat and don’t be afraid to explore the many different unique tastes coffee can offer when mixed with other ingredients. To start things off, mix your iced orange juice with Starbucks VIATM Spring Season Blend 2022. The dark cherry and spice flavours of the blend compliments well with the citrusy flavour of the orange juice.

Starbucks VIA Ready Brew is made with the highest-quality, ethically-sourced Arabica beans. Unlike instant coffee that uses a freeze-drying process, Starbucks VIA utilizes micro-ground technology, where freshly-roasted coffee is grounded into ultrafine particles that preserve its character, essential oils and flavours so you won’t find anything like it anywhere else. Starbucks VIA Ready Brew is made by adding hot (or cold) water to a cup, which brews the coffee in an instant. The product is pre-portioned into single-serve packets and will be packaged in boxes of 12 or 3, depending on the flavour.

For a better understanding of your overall caffeine tolerance during Ramadan, do consult your physician to avoid any caffeine-related disruptions or complications while observing the month. Starbucks Malaysia wishes you a good Ramadan and enjoy their promotions throughout the month!

Mission to promote healthy vegan meals

PETALING JAYA: Apart from health benefits, plant-based meals can be a pleasure to the taste buds as well.

A leading vegan advocate of the “green” lifestyle, Kalidewan Murugaya, or Chef Dave as he is fondly known, is on a mission to promote and create healthy meals, one person at a time.

A vegan is one who does not eat any food derived from animals or avoids animal products.

Formerly a chef at a five-star hotel, cooking meat dishes came with the job for Dave.

It was the same when he spent a year working on a cruise liner, where he cooked steaks and other meat dishes.

However, an injury he sustained in the kitchen resulted in surgery. He then suffered another setback when two days before the movement control order was imposed in 2020, he was told his contract would not be renewed as the pandemic had grounded the cruise business.

While recuperating from surgery, Dave came across a documentary titled Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, which changed his life.

“After watching the documentary, I learned that animal husbandry would lead to global warming. But as a chef, I could not initially relate to a meat-free menu.

“But when I saw how eggs were processed, I became depressed and wondered about our human compassion and love for others,” he told theSun.

Dave immediately removed eggs and dairy products from his diet.

He started tweaking Malaysian cuisine and shared it online. To widen his exposure, he left laminated notes on his cuisine adventures at the doorsteps of residents at the condominium where he stayed.

Two years later, Dave is now a vegan ambassador to six brands and collaborates with 30 companies to produce plant-based meals.

He has also created his own food academy called D’Vegan, with 3,000 students who learn how to cook and prepare vegetarian cuisine from him.

Looking back, Dave said he is humbled by the outpouring of support.

“I never expected this to happen. Even so, I believe in consistency. My team and I have to produce 30 recipes this month and we are still experimenting with different textures,” he said.

He is also not spared criticism from netizens.

“I get questions such as why I use mock meat in my cooking and about protein intake.

“I use my platform to educate audiences that we can get protein from plant-based meals,” he said.

He recounted how a fan was always tagging him on his Instagram account to show the meals she ate.

“I was curious as she was a Clean Eating Challenge participant, and ate the same meals for two months. She eventually shared that she had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, a condition that affects the ovaries.

“The best part was she did not need her medications anymore. Even her doctors were surprised,” he said.

With a following of almost 70,000 on his YouTube channel, Dave is not about to rest on his laurels.

“We need more plant-based options to make it more accessible to those who want to become vegan. It may take a century to change, but I’ll support any brand that takes the initiative to include vegan products in the market,” he said.

One of the challenges includes a call for all HEINEKEN Malaysia employees to complete an e-Learning course on responsible consumption, entailing the importance of responsible consumption, the health effects of alcohol, and ways to enjoy alcohol responsibly.

Engineering the perfect pillow

SLEEP is an essential function that allows our mind and body to rest, causing us to be refreshed and alert when we wake up. Quality sleep also helps the body remain healthy and fight off diseases, which is why doctors tell their patients to get lots of rest.

Without enough sleep, our brains cannot function properly, causing our ability to concentrate, think clearly, and process memories to be severely impaired.

It is recommended that adults get between seven and nine hours of nightly sleep but how many of us actually achieve this? I barely get four to five hours on a good day, which leads me to ponder, why is my sleeping time dropping as I grow older?

Work schedules, daily stressors, disruptive bedroom environments, and medical conditions can all prevent us from receiving enough sleep.

Pillows play a major role in how well we sleep and finding the right one (as I have found) can be extremely challenging. It is not uncommon for me to wake up with a stiff neck or migraine after sleeping on an uncomfortable pillow.

In my quest for the perfect pillow, I’ve run through the gamut of memory foam, cotton, down feather, latex and bamboo pillows of various price points in the market – all to no avail.

So, when the opportunity came to review GIRAFthepillow, I jumped at the chance. I’d read about the brand and the story of its founder and inventor Ken Leong who – like me – was plagued with poor sleep, headaches, neck pain and stiff muscles from the pillows available on the market.

But unlike me, Ken made use of his Mechanical Engineering background to solve his problem. He just developed his own pillow!

Ken has since spent more than 17 years researching materials, features & fitment, perfecting his pillow along the way with an American Posture Institute Expert.

The result is the first pillow engineered from the ground up, with Advanced Composites Technology that has allowed GIRAFthepillow to incorporate key features that set its pillows apart from the rest.

I was pretty excited when the box containing the pillow finally arrived, but I must admit to being a bit underwhelmed once I actually had it in my hands.

The brand talks a big game with words like “slouch recovery advanced composite pillow” and a host of technical jargon, so I was expecting something a sleep-deprived Tony Stark/Iron Man from the MCU would develop ... not this light and soft pillow that is touted to be my ticket to better sleep quality.

It took me just one night to discover that looks can indeed be deceiving. The pillow was surprisingly comfortable thanks to the composite material coupled with the unique pilot headrest wings design that literally cuddles you in a soft embrace.

I also realised that it corrected my sleep posture to alleviate my snoring, and reduced pressure on my neck when sleeping on my side.

The verdict

Two weeks in, I’ve clocked more hours of continuous quality sleep on GIRAFthepillow than on the five other (now orphaned) pillows that populate my bed, with no soreness or stiff neck when waking.

GIRAFthepillow worked as intended for me, and it is going to take something really special to replace it as my de facto pillow from now on.

The price might be a bit daunting but it is definitely worth giving it a shot, instead of wasting money on multiple variations of pillows like I did.

The 2022 GIRAF Advanced Composites Sleeping Pillow is now available for purchase through the brand’s website at RM399 with free shipping and a 2-year warranty. For those looking for a more personalised experience, the brand also offers wholly bespoke custom-fit pillows that are tailored specifically to the customer’s measurements and requirements.

For more information on GIRAFthepillow products visit their main website at www.girafthepillow.com.

From now till April 18, stand a chance to win one of 3 GIRAFthepillow Advanced Composites Sleeping Pillow worth RM399 each by joining our giveaway HERE: https://www.thesundaily.my/services/forms/thesun-lyfe-x-girafthepillow-giveaway-contest

On the path to better health, energy levels

PETALING JAYA: It took just two weeks to bring down the LDL (bad cholesterol) and raise the HDL (good cholesterol) levels significantly. This was among the amazing results seen by five participants of Plant-Based Health Alliance (PB Health) Challenge.

Five journalists from theSun grabbed the opportunity to get on the path to good health and help reduce their carbon footprint by going off meat and dairy products.

The challenge began with blood and urine tests to measure the cholesterol and sugar levels, as well as kidney and liver function of the participants. They then started on a two-week plant-based diet.

Managing editor Eddie Hoo called it an eye-opening experience as he thought he was on a healthy diet since becoming a vegetarian almost five years ago.

“When I started on the challenge, I went off dairy products and eggs. By not consuming these foods, my blood test results after the challenge showed great improvements.”

Hoo said his cholesterol and triglycerides levels improved dramatically, and because of the excellent results, he will continue to abstain from milk and eggs.

“I also found that my stamina improved and agility enhanced. I not only lost 2.5kg but my bodyfat improved from 25.2% to 23.4%,” he added.

Reporter Shivani Supramani found the first few days the hardest but nevertheless, she had a good start. A week into the challenge, she realised that her body was craving for carbohydrates.

“This challenge has helped me control my sugar intake. As the first blood test suggested, I am pre-diabetic. To avoid any sort of chance of slipping into diabetes, I began cutting down on rice and other carbohydrates,” she said.

Reporter Elly Fazaniza felt hungry and craved for salty food during the first three days of the challenge. This made her realise that her food was heavily laced with salt and monosodium glutamate.

“After consulting with the nutritionist, I understand that my body’s releasing less lactic acid,” she said.

“My sense of taste has also changed. Since my blood test indicated that I am almost pre-diabetic stage, I’m more conscious of the type of food I eat.

“I think of food now as fuel for sustenance. Of course, I still have cravings for meat but I have substituted it with eggs and fish as a temporary measure before I become a vegetarian.”

Reporter Suraya Ali was initially sceptical about the diet and did not think anything would change.

“Surprisingly, my six and 11-year-old adapted to this new diet quickly. Even more surprising is that they prefer the sugarless, dairy-free, gluten-free and less-salt option,” she said.

“We find ourselves swapping cereal brands, choosing sugarless oat milk over the fresh or full cream milk, and we have not had a sugary treat in a while.

“After the challenge, I was surprised to see the blood test results. Lower cholesterol, controlled sugar levels and such. I feel much better.”

For reporter Emily Jessinta, she found the challenge a little bit difficult but she managed to pull through on most days.

“The meals tasted great but were different to my taste buds. I noticed that I lost 2kg in the process,” she said.

Search for the best M’sian bartender begins!

The ultimate bartender’s test is back again in 2022! After a two-year hiatus, Heineken Malaysia Berhad’s (HEINEKEN Malaysia) Star Academy is back in action in the search for Malaysia’s best bartender. First up on Star Academy’s agenda is the Heineken Star Quality programme, which aims to equip bartenders in Malaysia with star quality training through an immersive learning experience. Bartenders are invited to register and compete with exciting prizes up for grabs!

Star Academy was established by HEINEKEN Malaysia to provide professional training to business partners and bartenders by equipping them with skills in the areas of product history and knowledge, technical know-how, as well as responsible serving and retailing. Besides training, competitive selections are also held to identify the best bartenders in the country. From participating outlets nationwide, top performers will then be chosen for the national finals after rigorous theoretical and practical assessments.

“At HEINEKEN, we are passionate about our consumers and customers, and we strive to deliver the best service and experiences. Due to the pandemic, we had to suspend all Star Academy programmes for the last two years. We’re excited to announce that Star Academy is back this year with our flagship Heineken Star Quality programme, and we are thrilled to get back to training bartenders across Malaysia to deliver the perfect Heineken serve,” said Vasily Baranov, the Sales Director of HEINEKEN Malaysia.

Heineken Star Quality

This year, Star Academy kicks off with its flagship programme – Heineken Star Quality. Bartenders are invited to undergo training on the art of bartending, to understand the history and origin of Heineken as well as the ingredients that go into the brew. Ultimately, these bartenders will grasp the Heineken Star Serve, the five-step pouring ritual comprising rinse, pour, skim, check and serve to create the perfect pint of Heineken.

Heineken Star Quality aims to give bartenders an immersive experience, engaging the five senses of sight, smell, sound, touch and taste. The training will empower the bartenders with newly acquired skills, allowing them to earn their credentials in serving the perfect pint of Heineken. As a result, Heineken fans in Malaysia will be able to enjoy the authentic Heineken quality and experience when they order their favourite Heineken.

Jack Loh, Heineken Star Serve 2019 winner and Malaysian representative in the Heineken Global Bartender Finals 2019 shares, “Going through the Heineken Star Serve programme and MEDIA RELEASE subsequently being crowned Malaysia’s Best Heineken bartender in 2019 was one of the proudest moments of my life. I will never forget the experience of representing Malaysia at the Heineken Global Bartender Finals in Amsterdam. It was a thrilling adventure to master and showcase my bartending skills alongside the best of the best. With this year’s hands-on training, I have no doubt the upcoming Heineken Star Quality will be even more exciting!”

The Heineken Star Quality training will be held in seven different regions in Malaysia including Penang, Perak, Johor, Sabah Sarawak and two locations in the Klang Valley. After the training sessions, participants will undergo both a theory and physical test, with their product knowledge and bartending skills being put to the test and graded.

The Heineken Star Bartender 2022 Malaysia champion will be crowned at the finale on 3 June 2022. The champion will then walk away with a three-days-two-nights, all expenses paid Langkawi getaway for both the bartender and the bar owner with their plus-ones.

Additionally, all finalists will receive a Heineken Star Quality Recognition pin – a gold pin for the champion, a silver for the runner up, and a bronze pin for each of the remaining finalists. Participating outlets will also receive a Star Academy 2022 plaque in recognition of their participation.

To sign up for the Heineken Star Quality programme, bartenders at participating Heineken outlets including restaurants, pubs and bars may register their interest at the Star Academy website (www.star-academy.heinekenmalaysia.com) starting 30 March 2022. In adherence to COVID-19 SOPs, participants will have to present a negative self-test result two days prior to attending the sessions.

Guinness Perfect Pour and Star Academy Masterclass

Beyond Heineken Star Quality, Star Academy will also be launching the Guinness Perfect Pour programme in July. Following that, the top scorers from Heineken Star Quality and Guinness Perfect Pour sessions will be invited for a Masterclass, where they can experience a specially curated session that elaborates the history and basics of beers, topped with a brewery tour followed by dinner and drinks.

A life changing surprise

Magnum’s Jackpot 1st Prize of RM17,640,352.00 was won on Sunday, April 3, 2022, by a furniture supplier in Selangor.

An instinctive purchase of Magnum’s 4D Jackpot tickets for only the third time, saw a 52-year-old man win a grand total of RM17,640,352.00 earlier this week.

The lucky man from Puchong, Selangor experienced a life-changing moment when the Jackpot numbers he purchased was successfully drawn on 3rd April 2022, Sunday.

An occasional punter, the winner played the 4D Jackpot by purchasing a System Bet-6 for RM30. The winning numbers 8928 (First Prize) and 0329 (Second Prize) which won him RM17,640,352.00 were inspired by his birth date and handphone numbers respectively.

Talk about a surprise birthday treat!

The lucky winner also said prior to his winning ticket, he had only purchased tickets occasionally on a sharing basis with his friends.

“At first, I thought I was dreaming on the night of the Live Draw itself. I saw both numbers being drawn via the app but didn’t want to check the phone afterwards for the final draw out of fear of jinxing it.

“My hands were already shaking when I was holding my mobile phone then. The next morning, I refuse to believe the results at first.

“I went to one of Magnum’s outlets to scan the tickets just to be sure. Only then, did I realise, I became a multi-millionaire!” the winner said, after arriving at the Magnum Headquarters to receive his winning cheque.

When asked how he will be spending his prize money, the winner said that he aims to settle his outstanding debts and loans and allocate some amount to fund his children’s wedding and education expenses.

We in Magnum would like congratulate our winners and hope that the prize won would bring positive changes to their lives!”

Raising them right

THE sacred month of Ramadan is a significant time for introspection and to develop positive emotional growth in all areas of our relationships. In conjunction with this meaningful season, Enfagrow A+ today launched their campaign called Segelas Kebaikan, Sepenuh Harapan. This campaign aims to encourage open dialogue between parents and to guide them on raising children that are well-rounded, not just focusing on the importance of academic grades but also being grounded in moral values.

“It is extra meaningful for us to launch the Enfagrow A+ Segelas Kebaikan, Sepenuh Harapan campaign this Ramadan as we want to be alongside this journey with parents in nurturing positive values and strengthening relationships with their children. At Enfagrow A+, we strive to be a strong pillar of support to parents in their parenthood journey. Together, we aim to lay the building blocks for a well-rounded development that emphasises the importance of both mental intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ),” said Tiffany Tang, Marketing Director of Mead Johnson Nutrition for Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.

As parents continuously look for ways to impart values to their children, Ramadan is an opportune time for them to model the right example and instil good values in their young, whether through fasting together, bonding over iftar or giving back to the community, Nur Fazura, a celebrity mother who was present at the event shared: “Every year I look forward to Ramadan and even more so now with my daughter Nur Fatima.

“This special month not only brings a sense of togetherness and family bonding but also emphasises the strengthening of values. As my little one grows up, I hope that she will develop a strong moral compass and possess the ability to make good decisions and deal with difficult situations in the future. Enfagrow A+ has been my trusted go-to in ensuring that Nur Fatima gets the right foundation with key nutrients such as Milk Fat Globule Membrane (MFGM) and expert-recommended amount of DHA which gives her a head start in achieving IQ and EQ milestones for a successful future.”

Imparting values at a young age is no easy task, and it begins with providing a good start to a child’s development. The key to raising a well-rounded child is in developing both their IQ and EQ (such as social-emotional skills) through parental nurturance and nutrition. IQ is the cognitive skills that contribute academically whereas EQ is the ability to identify, assess and regulate the emotions oneself. A child with a healthy balance of IQ and EQ skills has better capabilities in comprehension and self-awareness as well as the memory to quickly learn, understand and retain information that is given.

Just as a high IQ can predict top test scores, a high EQ can predict success in social and emotional situations. Research has shown that intentionally nurturing EQ is critical as it is a key predictor of future success in relationships, health, and quality of life. Interestingly it is found that EQ matters twice as much as IQ, with 67% of the abilities necessary for superior performance among leaders. In the spirit of Ramadan, the Segelas Kebaikan, Sepenuh Harapan campaign also introduces a nationwide contest to raise funds for Dana Sepenuh Harapan.

With this charity fund, Enfagrow A+ aims to support and uplift the lives of underprivileged children and to help parents fulfil their child’s dreams by winning up to RM100,000 in prizes.

All funds raised will be donated to Rumah Amal Cahaya Kasih Bestari and Rumah Titian Kaseh as a show of support for these charity homes’ compassion and kindness in caring for less fortunate children.

To participate in this contest and contribute to the charity fund, every RM45 minimum spend of Enfagrow A+ will entitle you to one (1) contest entry. Submit your participation and answer a simple question via WhatsApp and RM2 will be donated to these charity homes. With every entry, RM100,000 worth of prizes awaits parents to bring their child’s dream to life!

MAGGI’s successful CSR project in support of the elderly

IN the spirit of giving and sharing, Nestlé’s ‘MAGGI Gong Xi Masak, Gong Xi Meriah’ Chinese New Year campaign raised RM81,000 in support of ten elderly care homes across Malaysia.

Nestlé has reached out to senior citizens in these homes to learn and understand their needs for essential items such as food supplies, household necessities, wheelchairs, mattresses, and electrical appliances including microwave and rice cookers. Some of these homes also experienced damages due to the massive floods in December last year and require support in upgrades and repairs of their living facilities.

According to Geetha Balakrishna, Business Executive Officer of MAGGI, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad: “MAGGI is a brand made for Malaysians. As such, in the spirit of the Chinese New Year, we extended our initiative to our senior folks as a gesture of appreciation with the hope that our contributions will bring them some festive joy, reminiscent of their warm memories with their loved ones and in their younger days. We are humbled to see many Malaysians coming together through this campaign to show their support and give back to the community.”

The ten elderly care homes selected to receive the contributions from Nestlé’s ‘MAGGI Gong Xi Masak, Gong Xi Meriah’ Chinese New Year campaign included Rumah Charis, Pusat Jagaan Wargamas Air Tenang, Sahana Old Folks Home and Noble Care in Klang Valley; Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Orang-orang Tua Islam Titian Abadi and Darul Hanan in Pulau Pinang; Pusat Jagaan Warga Emas Nur Ehsan and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Kurang Upaya in Johor; Mesra Homecare Centre in Kelantan and Pusat Penjagaan Orang Tua Grannies in Pahang.

Ms Suzanne, House Manager of Rumah Charis, shared: “One of our oldest residents, 92-year-old Dorcas, who finds joy in helping the caregiver cook on a daily basis, was particularly excited in preparing the Chinese New Year dishes, made more special thanks to the food supply contributions from Nestlé! Indeed, we’re thankful and blessed that this has brought all the residents closer together during this meaningful celebration.”

For Pusat Jagaan Wargamas Air Tenang, the contributions and support from Nestlé were especially poignant this year, as they had experienced the devastating flash flood in December last year.

Speaking about this experience, Puan Saroja, House Manager of Pusat Jagaan Wargamas Air Tenang, said: “The flood had damaged a lot of the residents’ belongings, including furniture, mattresses, electrical items and clothes which had to be disposed of. We’re thankful that individuals and organisations like Nestlé are helping us recover from the aftermath of the flood,” said Puan Saroja.

Nestlé’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in conjunction with the ‘MAGGI Gong Xi Masak, Gong Xi Meriah’ Chinese New Year campaign saw the organisation contributing RM0.10 for every contest entry received from the public, bringing the total contributions to RM81,000.

Lifestyle cosmetic and beauty products for all ethnicities

Good skin is the foundation of happiness, and with that in mind, SRB by Santhi Raj Barr was curated just for all Malaysians who want affordable products that work the MAGIC for you. Going by the motto “one love”, SRB emphasizes equal love for each and every individual regardless of ethnicity, culture, or beliefs. Its aim is to spread love to all with guaranteed premium quality and effectiveness.

With the bustle of a full day’s schedule of work and recreation, we often leave little time for our bodies to rest. This exposes us to free radicals which damage our cells and cause our skin to become unbalanced.

This excessive exposure to free radicals, known as oxidative stress, can lead to age-related changes in appearance such as loss of skin elasticity, wrinkles, and poor circulation – all of which can lead to premature ageing. With the expertise and strength of a great team studying and analyzing cosmetic and beauty care products, SRB focuses primarily on the ingredients in order to give the optimum results in the quickest time.

Staying true to the brand image which carries the colour turquoise which signifies the ocean, SRB strongly advocates going green and being a sustainable brand by providing eco-friendly packaging. The first category of launch which was held at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur on the 12th of February 2022 encompassed six ranges of beauty and skincare products.

“After countless hours of R&D with the team and studying the needs of our consumers we are coming to learn that consumers look forward to reliable and yet affordable products and why not share with my friends and family the products that I use on a daily basis ... and I personally felt 2022 is the right year to kickstart the journey for SRB” quoted Santhi Raj Barr the founder of SRB.

“SRB’s product range is aimed to nourish the skin deeply to help retain optimum moisture levels, improve the skin’s translucency and cultivate the coveted healthy glass skin glow from the inside out” added Santhi Raj Barr.
